Getting the very best from you Black Magic Tan
Black Magic has a range of products that will ensure you get the best results from your spray tan. Follow these guidelines and you will have the best natural looking tan money can buy.
- Moisturise Daily
- Refrain from using oil based products over spray tan as these can cause your tan to break down
Give your tan a little boost every couple of days by using Black Magic’s Tan Xtend. Tan Xtend is a body moisturiser with a hint of ECO Certified DHA that will prolong your tan a few extra days.
Black Magic spray tan products
Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) was first used in the 1920s for x-rays. When split on the skin it was discovered it sent the skin a brown colour. Later, in the 1950s DHA was used to treat children with a rare metabolic disorder. What was found was if the DHA split on the patient’s skin, within a short time the skin turned a noticeable brown colour. Doctors in the USA played around with DHA and used DHA to help patients who suffered from Vitiligo to help with skin depigmentation. In the 1960s DHA found its way into cosmetic products, used in rub on lotions as an instant tan, however as the DHA was not as refined as today, the products remained relatively unchanged for 20-30 years.
Then came the breakthrough called the “Atomised Droplet” that could react with the body’s cells, giving a more desirable colour. At the same time it was discovered that applying it through a spray gun the amount of DHA could be controlled and applied to the skin to offer a much more even result – not to mention the time it took! It was now much faster to apply and with far better results than rub on tans!

Q&A
What do I wear for my spray tan?
Ideally as little as possible to ensure you get an all over tan, some old underwear, or ask your tanner for disposable underwear. We also suggest that you wear or bring dark loose clothing to the salon to put on after you have been sprayed and same for footwear, i.e a pair of jandals.
I just had a shower and my tan has washed off down the drain?
The colour you see washing off down the drain is just bronzer. Bronzer is added to the spray tan products to show your technician where they have sprayed and give you the gratification of an instant tan while your real spray tan is developing. This is why you go darker during the tanning stage.
Can I go to the gym or exercise whilst waiting for my tan to develop?
You should avoid any exercise before you have showered. Once you have showered you may commence normal activities.
Can I get a spray tan while I am pregnant?
Always consult with your doctor during your pregnancy, and we advise never to spray tan in your first trimester.
Can I go swimming in the pool?
Pools contain chlorine and the amount in each pool varies. Chlorine is a bleach and will strip your tan. If you must go swimming use Black Magic’s Tan Lock to help minimise colour loss from swimming in the pool.
Can men get a spray tan?
Yes, as long as they don’t have a lot of body hair.
PLEASE NOTE: Always wear a sunscreen when out in the sun as your spray tan will not protect you from ultraviolet rays.
